ORTM 600 - Conservation Area Design and Management
This course focuses on the theories, processess and techniques invovled in ecological management and design of conservation and protected areas. Students develop skills in community-based involvement in coservation area design, GIS approaches and techniques for analysis, the concept of naturalness, capacity and suitability of the natural resource base for tourism and recreation such as commercial backcountry recreation, and the evaluation of ecological values. Specifc focus is given to policies, procedures and practices to protect and manage resource and tourism resources within an integrated management context.
