NURS 318 - Nursing Theory and Practice: Pediatrics | ||
This course emphasizes the health of infants, children, and their families, with a focus on health promotion, risk reduction, disease prevention and common health problems. Particular attention is paid to northern populations and First Nations groups. Information and clinical practice relating to acute and chronic conditions and medical/surgical interventions are included. The impacts of illness, disability and medical/surgical care on the child and family unit are explored. Concepts of health promotion, effects of genetics and environment on child health and the influence of social determinants of health are introduced. Clinical experiences occur in acute pediatric and selected community settings, providing opportunities to apply pediatric nursing knowledge.
