HIST 240 - The Global Age of Expansion
This course studies the expansion and transformation of states, empires, knowledge, religions, economies, and technology before and during the first wave of globalization. Topics to be considered include: intercultural contact, colonization, and conflict; the unprecedented global mobility of human beings and other organisms (and its implications); the creation of maritime and land empires such as the Aztec, Ottoman, Spanish, Portuguese, Mughal, and Qing; the rise of global economies and trade; religious expansion and global missions; and the transformation of knowledge and development of science.
