Working under the guidance of a supervisor, each student must plan a study requiring original research and sophisticated analysis in order to produce and defend either (a) a substantial thesis or project of approximately 25,000 to 30,000 words (85-100 pages) or (b) an original project of comparable weight to a thesis. Projects may include knowledge transmission, museum exhibits, documentary films, creative writing, digital history initiatives, and/or artistic projects based on substantial historical research.
