CPSC 450 - Bioinformatics
This course introduces computational techniques for solving biological problems and presents an overview of the tools and the methods used to analyze large biological data sets. After introducing molecular biology for computer scientists—cells and organelles, chromosome, gene, DNA, RNA, proteins, transcription and translation—the course explores pairwise and multiple sequence alignment, sequence database searches, pattern identification of genes, promoters and transcription factor binding sites, as well as secondary and tertiary structure prediction for RNA and proteins.
